CLEAN OUT YOUR ARTERIES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

(PALM HARBOR, FL June 8, 2012) – Be honest: how often do you think about your arteries? Do you know whether their lining is smooth or – as is the case with many people – are they clogged with cholesterol plaques and other fatty deposits, constricting the free flow of oxygen and nutrients to all the vital organs and tissues?

If you have never given your arteries a thought, you may be endangering your health. That’s because hardening of the arteries, also called atherosclerosis, is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, along with many other serious illnesses.

Fortunately, as new research shows, high levels of exercise can help prevent this potentially lethal condition in middle-aged people.

“That’s great news because we know that by restricting the flow of blood, atherosclerosis can cause heart attacks, strokes, aneurisms, and other life-threatening diseases,” says Kevin Carrier, owner of North Pinellas Adventure Boot Camp for Women.

This new Indiana University study found that highly active people have far less hardening and thickening of the arteries than their more sedentary counterparts.

Vigorous physical activity helps prevent atherosclerosis in a number of ways, Carrier notes.

“It keeps arteries healthy and clean by lowering ‘bad’ plaque-forming cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, all of which can lead to atherosclerosis,” he says.

However, as beneficial and effective as exercise is in preventing atherosclerosis, modifying your lifestyle is just as crucial.

“Risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol are caused not just by inactivity, but also by bad habits such as diet rich in saturated fats, high sugar content, and processed foods,” Carrier points out. “So to boost the health of your arteries – not to mention health in general – you must combine a fitness program with calorie-restricted plan which includes lean protein, fruits and vegetables, as well as healthy fats and some whole grains.”

Eating a balanced diet is easy once you get the hang of it, Carrier says, but how do you find an exercise program that will stop atherosclerosis in its tracks?

“A boot camp incorporates a variety of exercises that will raise your heart rate, improve the overall quality of your blood vessels, increase the volume of blood and oxygen that move through your body, lower your blood pressure, and reduce or maintain your weight,” he says. “Not only will this kind of workout keep your arteries plaque-free, but it will also boost your overall health and fitness level at the same time.”
