CHANGE YOUR WORKOUT STYLE FROM “HO-HUM” TO “WOW!”

(PALM HARBOR, FL June 19, 2012) – You might have heard First Lady Michelle Obama tell a reporter a few days ago that, when it comes to exercise, she likes to “mix it up” and “make it fun.”

No matter what your political views are, or who you are going to vote for in November, fact is Mrs. Obama is right and you can’t go wrong in following her lead “to mix it up and make it fun” when embarking on a workout program.

“It’s true that variety is a spice of life and this extends to physical activity as well,” says Kevin Carrier, owner of North Pinellas Adventure Boot Camp for Women. “There are definite advantages to making your exercise as varied and diverse as possible.”

This message is especially important for people who are creatures of habit and like to stick with just one routine – no matter how dull and monotonous it becomes after a while.

Carrier points out, however, that boredom is just one side effect of a “blah” workout. “Another thing to remember is that for exercise to be effective and beneficial long-term, it has to challenge your body and all the muscle groups in new ways,” he says. “If it doesn’t, your fitness level, strength, endurance, and weight loss might stop increasing. You are no longer progressing but just coasting. That’s when many people get frustrated by lack of results and give up their program altogether.”

What should you do to prevent your body from getting accustomed to your usual routine and stop responding to it? It’s simple – surprise it with some bold, new moves! And good news is you don’t you have to be the President’s wife – or even a Democrat – to work out like the First Lady.

If you need help varying and mixing up your routine, Carrier suggests joining a boot camp.

“The exercises are devised especially to keep the momentum going – whether your goal is weight and fat reduction, or just getting stronger, fitter, and healthier,” he says. “Every day at camp is different – we change exercises every few minutes to speed up metabolism and fat loss efforts for up to 36 hours after the session is finished, and achieve your conditioning goals faster and more effectively.”

These are some (but by no means all) of the workouts you can expect at a boot camp: strength and interval training, core and cardio work, as well as balance and flexibility exercises.

And, if you think that boot camp workout is all hard work and no play, you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

“Many people are surprised at how much fun boot camp really is — we keep campers moving, engaged, and enjoying their workout – just as Mrs. Obama suggests,” Carrier says.
